Bengaluru: The Avalahalli police are preparing to issue a notice to singer Sonu Nigam in connection with an FIR registered against him over alleged derogatory remarks made about Kannadigas.
According to officials, the notice will be served within two days either via email or registered post, seeking clarification on his statements.
The police intend to question him on why he made the comments, what connection he implied between the Pahalgam attack and Kannada, and whether anyone provoked him to speak in a way that could insult the Kannada language.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader Dharmaraj. Sonu Nigam has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 353 (statements causing public mischief), and 352(1) (intentional insult).
Further investigation is underway, and the police are expected to proceed with questioning after the notice is served.
