Five people were shot and wounded at the Brass Mill Centre mall in Connecticut's Waterbury on Tuesday evening, police said.
According to Waterbury police chief Fernando Spagnolo, officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the shopping centre around 4.40 pm. All five victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. While the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, police said the situation appears to have stemmed from a dispute.
"This was not a random act of violence," chief Spagnolo said during a press briefing outside the mall. He confirmed that the suspected shooter, who was armed with a semiautomatic pistol, is believed to have known the victims. A dispute reportedly escalated, leading to the shooting.
As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made. However, Spagnolo assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. "We believe this incident was isolated and that there is no further danger to the community," he said.
