NEW DELHI: A fire broke out in a passenger train's engine near Gasal Railway Station in Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal on Tuesday. The authorities rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control.
No casualties have been reported so far.
"The train was stopped due to the timely response of the driver and guard and the fire could be fully controlled... No casualties were reported in the incident," RPF Inspector HK Sharma said.
This comes amidst increased train related mishaps in the past few months. Earlier this year, at least 12 people lost their lives in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district after stepping onto the tracks following a false rumour of a fire onboard a train. The incident occurred when the Pushpak Express made an unscheduled stop after someone pulled the emergency chain.
