NEW DELHI: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s recent five-nation tour .
Speaking to reporters, Mann mocked the PM by naming fictional countries to highlight what he claimed were obscure destinations being visited by PM Modi. “PM has gone somewhere. I think it is Ghana . He is going to be back and he is welcome. God knows which countries he keeps visiting, ‘Magnesia’, ‘Galveaisa’, ‘Tarvesia’,” he said.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader further said, “He does not stay in a country with 140 crore people. He is visiting countries where the population is 10,000 and he is getting the 'highest awards' there.”
In a sarcastic tone, Mann compared the public turnouts in those nations with crowds back home. “Here, 10,000 people gather to watch a JCB... What has he gotten himself into!...” he added, drawing laughter from his audience.
Mann’s comments came as PM Modi completed a five-nation tour aimed at strengthening India’s diplomatic and strategic ties. He returned to India on Thursday after visiting Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.
During his tour, PM Modi focused on boosting bilateral relations, promoting economic cooperation, and expanding India’s role in the Global South . Several important announcements were made, and multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed.
