Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of Nova Premier, its most advanced and capable artificial intelligence model to date. Amazon claims that Nova Premier is designed to manage highly complex tasks and it also serves as a teacher for model distillation . “Today we’re expanding the Amazon Nova family of foundation models announced at AWS re:Invent with the general availability of Amazon Nova Premier , our most capable model for complex tasks and teacher for model distillation,” said the company. The newly launched Nova Premier joins the existing Amazon Nova understanding models available in Amazon Bedrock .

Amazon Nova Premier AI model: Features
Amazon has revealed that Nova Premier can process input text, images and videos. The AI model comes with advanced capabilities and it can easily handle complex tasks which require deep understanding of context, multistep planning, and precise execution across multiple tools and data sources. Nova Premier is also capable of processing extremely long documents or large code bases.

“With Nova Premier and Amazon Bedrock Model Distillation, you can create highly capable, cost-effective, and low-latency versions of Nova Pro, Lite, and Micro, for your specific needs,” added Amazon.

A key aspect highlighted by Amazon is Nova Premier's role in "model distillation." This technique involves training smaller, more resource-efficient AI models by leveraging the knowledge and capabilities of a larger, more powerful "teacher" model like Nova Premier. This approach could allow businesses to deploy sophisticated AI functionalities in resource-constrained environments and on edge devices.

How to use Amazon Nova Premier
To get started with Nova Premier, you first need to request access to the model in the Amazon Bedrock console. Navigate to Model access in the navigation pane, find Nova Premier, and toggle access.

Once you have access, you can use Nova Premier through the Amazon Bedrock Converse API providing in input a list of messages from the user and the assistant. Messages can include text, images, and videos.

Nova Premier will be integrated into AWS's existing suite of AI services, making it accessible to developers and organisations looking to build advanced AI-powered applications. Further details regarding pricing, availability, and specific use cases are expected to be announced by Amazon in the near future.
