Back in 2002, Bollywood witnessed a unique onscreen pairing that blended two very different film legacies. They were none other than Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, in the romantic drama 'Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya'. Though the film didn’t become a box office sensation, it holds a special place in Bollywood’s memory lane, as it remains the only film the duo starred in together.
A Love Triangle on Screen
Directed by Dharmesh Darshan, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya brought together Karisma and Abhishek alongside Akshay Kumar in a classic love triangle. The film tells the story of Pooja (Karisma), who sacrifices her rising career for a marriage with Shiv (Abhishek).
Issues happen in their relationship as misunderstandings and suspicion take center stage. Believing Shiv is unfaithful, Pooja leaves and eventually finds solace in Raj (Akshay), a kind-hearted man who falls deeply in love with her.
Shiv returns just when Pooja starts rebuilding her life. This forces her to choose between the past and the present. At last she chooses to reunite with her husband.
A Glimpse of Real-Life Romance
What made the film even more intriguing at the time was the real-life engagement between Karisma and Abhishek. The couple was briefly engaged. The announcement made headlines across the country. Sadly the relationship ended abruptly due to reported family disagreements. Karisma went on to marry Sunjay Kapur in 2003, while Abhishek later tied the knot with Aishwarya Rai in 2007.
One-Time Pairing That Lives On in Memory
Though they never worked together again, 'Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya' remains a rare cinematic collaboration between two members of Bollywood royalty.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan's recent outing 'Housefull 5' is doing well at the box office, with decent reviews from the audiences.
