Meghan Markle's parenting ritual divides netizens: Would your child read 4,000 emails?

There's nothing a parent won't do to make their children's lives special. From buying cameras to record videos of their childhood to writing them letters and e-mails that can be gifted to them when they grow up, each step a parent takes is aimed at making the kids feel happy and cherished.

Whether a common man or a Duchess, it seems the parental love is similar in all walks of life as recently, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle appeared in an interview at The Jamie Kern Lima Show and shared that each night before bed she writes emails to her children. She added that she pens down moments that were simple yet special like, "Here's your report card from today, or Oh my gosh! You said the funniest thing today, a picture of you two having breakfast or playing with the dog"

She shared that she would share the emails with her children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4 when they were 16 or 18 and could see how much their mom loved them. "Here's an email I have been keeping for you. Here's everything and every moment that I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you," said the mom of two expressing her reason behind the tradition.

The idea was inspired by one of her mom friends. “One of our mom friends had said to me last year that she just created sort of secret email addresses for her kids that she’ll give to them at some point in their life. She would just send them, you know, random pictures, the pictures that you aren’t going to put in a frame,” said Markle.

The netizens have been having a field day reacting to Markle's revelation. Most people have been appreciating her efforts and emotions towards her children, writing, "You may not like it or appreciate when you're 18, but there will be a point in your life when you will read those emails and be absolutely sobbing. And at that moment you will be grateful she put in the effort."

Others have mentioned how no child brought up in this age would be reading emails sent by their mother when they are 18, which is when most children are rebellious in nature and adhering to their parents' wishes seems like a task. "What’s worse is we all know it’s 4,000 emails of narcissism. No 18 year old wants to listen to their mum for 10 minutes let alone however long these incoherent rants would be."

Should you create time capsules for your kids?

In the modern era of parenting, parents value the time they spend with their children and focus on making it special and memorable for them. Time capsules such as mails are one of the most common methods of memory keeping these days with many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian writing letters to their children that they can read in the future.
These mails or letters will not only serve as an affirmation of their mother's love towards them but also can be the motivation they reach towards in times when they are feeling down.
According to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, engaging in shared activities with children improved their well-being. Additionally, creating family keepsakes such as time capsules can help children foster a positive identity and a deeper understanding of their culture and values.

Whether your children read them at 18 or way later in life, time capsules can be a great way of ensuring that they don't forget one of the happiest times of their lives, spent with their parents.
