Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are one of the most celebrated duos both on screen and off screen for their great camaraderie and believable on-screen presence. But the actress has now revealed that their first meeting was not as smooth as it is today.

Kajol shared that during the filming of Baazigar in 1992, both Shah Rukh and she had different energies. In a chat with Radio Nasha, Kajol said, “First of all, I was not even 18 at that time—around seventeen and a half years old. We were shooting on January 1. Shah Rukh likes to shoot on that day. Saal ke pehle din shooting karo toh poore saal karte ho.”

Kajol was the only one buzzing with excitement after a full night’s rest, while the whole set was tired from the celebrations. She recounted how her talkative nature kicked in while others preferred silence. But her attempt to engage Shah Rukh in conversation didn’t go as planned. Kajol recalled sitting beside him and playfully questioning his serious demeanour. However, SRK wasn’t amused. “Can you please shut up for a minute? Somebody shut her up, for God’s sake,” he said.
Kajol remembered feeling taken aback and called it “so rude and mean” at the time. But later the duo developed a strong friendship. “Of course, that led to a great friendship. I don’t think he even remembers half of it,” she said.

The conversation also touched on a memorable scene in Baazigar that required a touch of sensuality. Kajol was unsure how to portray that role as she was just 18. She admitted struggling with the shot until choreographer Saroj Khan stepped in with a quirky solution. “Saroj ji said that you have to suddenly feel ‘aah’. It has to be an expression of sensuality. I told her I don’t understand,” she said.
Kajol revealed that SRK was asked to pinch her during the scene to help her deliver the right expression. She added that over the years, both she and SRK have shared many such goofy and spontaneous moments on set.
