Wynne Evans dealt another crushing career blow by BBC after radio show axe

Send Push

The BBC has officially cut all ties with Wynne Evans axing his last remaining show with the broadcaster. In February and March this year, the 53-year-old opera singer presented a travelogue around Wales with Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page entitled All At Sea. The show saw the pair travel up and down the coastline of their Welsh homeland. Six episodes have aired, and the full series is still available on the BBC iPlayer. However, the broadcaster has declined to commission a second series of the programme, leaving Wynne officially cut off with no work on any of the BBC outlets.

The show had its original air date pushed back when he found himself dropped from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour after he was caught on camera making a crude remark at the launch event. Although it eventually broadcast, there was reportedly a question mark over a second series from that point on. "Once the first series was slapped on ice, there was always a huge question mark hanging over the prospect of a second outing," a source said.

"Only now has the BBC publicly confirmed it won't be returning. It means that Wynne has no TV show or radio show with the Beeb, and effectively marks the end of their relationship," they told The Sun.

Express.co.uk contacted representatives for Wynne Evans. When approached, the BBC confirmed there were no plans for a second series.

This latest career disappointment comes after he was axed from his BBC Wales breakfast radio show last month.

He has since launched his own radio show, and made a sly dig at his former employers after he raked in an impressive 40,000 listeners for his debut.

Fans of the former GoCompare man can tune in to hear him presenting live from 9am to noon, Monday to Friday, on his website wynneevansshow.com.

The debut show on Monday, June 17, attracted 40,065 listeners, and he joked that a flood of WhatsApp messages from fans briefly crashed his system.

Referring to the BBC, Wynne quipped sarcastically: "Must be lovely and peaceful over there now. Plenty of time to finally finish that game of Solitaire."

Listener and fellow Welsh entertainer Alex John agreed as he added: "The BBC made a massive mistake and I think they will start to realise it. We had laughs and tears this morning, and it was an incredible show. Can't wait to tune in again tomorrow."
