
The highest railway station in the UK is also the UK's most remote located at an incredible elevation of 1,338 feet above sea level. Set along the breathtaking West Highland Line in the Scottish Highlands, Corrour railway station has even been featured in Trainspotting. It can only be accessed either by train or a long 20-mile hike but despite its remoteness, Corrour offers more than just beautiful views of the mountains and forests.
The station is home to a restaurant and BnB accommodation in the former Signal Box, where guests can choose from three beautifully designed rooms. The restaurant offers a warm fireplace, comfy sofas and a range of Scottish foods, and it even won Restaurant of the Year for the North of Scotland.
The station is managed by ScotRail, with regular services operated by both ScotRail and the Caledonian Sleeper.
Corrour railway station is served by the West Highland Line, with direct trains from Glasgow Queen Street. The journey takes about three hours and offers some of the most scenic views in the UK.
The overnight service runs from London Euston stationand stops at Corrour on its way through Scotland's dramatic landscapes, from the seaside to remote Highlands and historic cities.
The Caledonian Sleeper serves multiple Scottish destinations, including Fort William, Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
The station is also located on the Corrour Estate which covers abut 57,000 acres of Highland wilderness and is owned by Lisbet Rausing who acquired the estate in 1995.
Corrour has undergone extensive reforestation and rewilding efforts. Deer numbers have been reduced to encourage natural regeneration, and native tree species are being replanted in areas formerly dominated by non-native conifers.
Peatland is also being restored, and wildlife such as red squirrels, hedgehogs, and birds of prey are returning.
The estate has developed four hydroelectric schemes, generating clean energy for Corrour and around 3,500 homes via the National Grid.
