A Northern Irish football fan has been left in excruciating pain after
Jack Trotter from Newtownards, County Down, was enjoying the festivities with his girlfriend Abbie Gallagher and friends when disaster struck at around 6pm on Blundell Street near the waterfront, as the team's celebratory bus tour was winding down.
From his hospital bed, Jack spoke to Northern Ireland, describing the pain as "absolute agony" and revealing he was among several people injured in the harrowing event.
Taking to social media to update concerned friends and followers, Jack posted about the ordeal, stating that things could have been "much worse" had he not leapt aside just in time.
"I'm writing this because I've got a million texts asking me if I'm okay and it's crazy over here and I've barely any service," he communicated through his online channels, reports
Jack vividly recounted the moment of impact, saying: "The parade was going unreal until the very end, some absolute lunatic decided to floor it and drive his car through everyone. Unfortunately I was hit, however I'm extremely lucky as I dodged the car just in time, however still got hit."
Reflecting on the turn of events that escalated from excitement to horror, he revealed his dismay, stating: "In absolute shock how an event like this can turn to such a tragedy. ".
Yet, on an uplifting note, he affirmed: "I'm okay everyone, getting looked after now, just mental how it could've been a lot worse."
Merseyside Police have detained a 53 year old white British male from Liverpool in connection with the incident which resulted in over 40 individuals sustaining injuries, including four children.
After the commotion, confirming the treatment of 20 individuals on-site and the hospitalisation of an additional 27, two suffering serious injuries.
Additionally, an ambulance paramedic was hit amid the chaos but miraculously escaped without harm.
Authorities are currently probing into the details of the incident to understand what occurred.
