has taken a step back from her self-titled ITV show as she announced over the weekend that she is set to undergo keyhole surgery.
The beloved 65-year-old Scottish presenter opened up to her fans on social media, revealing that she "hadn't been feeling well" for a while and, after numerous scans and consultations with medical experts had decided to proceed with surgery.
On Monday, May 5, viewers tuned in to see Lorraine's familiar face replaced by This Morning's Sian Welby, who expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, telling the audience she felt "very lucky" to be stepping in for Lorraine as she recovers, reports .
Sian shared a touching message on air, saying: "First though, before we get started obviously we want to wish Lorraine a speedy recovery."
She conveyed warm sentiments, mentioning: "You might have seen her post over the weekend. She's been in hospital for an operation; I know she's planning to be back here as soon as she can."
Addressing her colleague Tyler West, Sian highlighted: "We're sending her our love and well wishes aren't we?" To which Tyler replied affirmatively: "We're sending her all the love on this Monday morning."
The entertainment correspondent also chimed in, noting: "And also that she's following doctors' orders and it's very hard to get Lorraine to follow any orders, so I'm glad that she's resting, she's taking her time out."
Tyler then warmly welcomed Sian to the show, exclaiming: "More importantly as well, welcome to you. Sian Welby's in the building!"
The star of the Capital radio show quipped: "Who let me do this?" As Tyler excitedly declared: "This is it, flying solo. I am so excited that you're here."
Over the weekend, Lorraine shared an update with her fans on Instagram directly from the hospital. She revealed: "Just wanted to let you know that I'm having a wee procedure today."
Explaining her health issues, she continued: "I've not been feeling all that well for a little while, so I had some scans and tests and I have to have my ovaries and my tubes taken out."
She reassured fans, saying: "It's purely preventative, it's going to be with keyhole surgery which is incredible. I'm being very well looked after and I'll obviously see you really soon."
Lorraine concluded positively: "I'm going to be totally fine and I'll see you soon."
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 from 9am.
