The World Rugby Test window officially opens this week and Wales' autumn campaign kicks off with a clash against Argentina, and one recognisable face making a return to Cardiff in November is Eddie Jones.
The Australian was in charge of England between 2015 and 2022 and established himself as one of rugby's most iconic personalities, courtesy of his explosive reactions and candid manner. He famously described Wales as a "little s*** place", which naturally made him an extremely unpopular character throughout the nation.
Nevertheless, others would commend him for bringing blockbuster entertainment to rugby - never shying away from speaking his mind - though he subsequently offered an apology for those Wales remarks in his autobiography.
After concluding his tenure as England chief in 2022, Jones endured a disastrous period at the helm of Australia, who crashed out during the group phase of the 2023 World Cup before Jones severed ties with Rugby Australia.
His current coaching role sees him leading Japan - the same nation he guided between 2012 and 2015. He assumed command in 2024 and is presently developing the squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
Jones allegedly earns £650,000 annually in Japan, positioning him amongst the most handsomely rewarded rugby coaches globally.
Wales clash with Jones' Japan on Saturday, November 15 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. This encounter represents one of four internationals scheduled to take place in the Welsh capital this month.
Beyond his primary coaching duties, the charismatic rugby figure has dabbled in punditry work. During the Six Nations, for instance, he contributed to ITV's match coverage - representing his most recent venture outside of coaching.
Net worth and life beyond rugbyJones' wealth is reportedly valued at £4million, accumulated through his extensive coaching career and various business endeavours outside the sport, including several corporate positions.
In 2015, following his departure as Japan head coach, Jones secured an appointment to the advisory board of Goldman Sachs Japan - the American multinational investment banking and financial services giant.
He has also held a corporate position with investment bank Nomura, establishing a three-year partnership beginning in 2017. According to Nomura's EMEA chief Jonathan Lewis, Jones would draw upon knowledge gained from his coaching experience and demonstrate how it could be applied within the corporate environment.
Residence and familyRegarding property, Jones has a two-bedroom flat in central Tokyo, which he shares with his wife.
He told The Times in 2022 that it represents "the only place we really consider home" and suggested they might settle there permanently upon retirement. Jones encountered his wife Hiroko whilst teaching at Sydney International Grammar School.
Both worked as educators - Jones focusing on Geography whilst Hiroko taught Japanese. The couple have a daughter, Chelsea, who has since started her own family.
