Destination X returned to the BBC with another gripping episode, as the four remaining contestants battled it out to win the £100,000 prize. Wednesday's episode (August 27) was the semi-final, raising the stakes as the X-bus travelled further into Europe. With Darren, Josh, Judith, and Saskia fighting for a space in the final, the players were paired up and forced to solve clues pointing at their destination. However, with Judith and Darren working together, they failed to complete the mission.
They all faced a treasure trove in the mine challenge, which contained an image of the Mona Lisa etched with the phrase "She's got company." They also had named helmets that read out, "Grace, Kelly, Elle," and four playing cards in the dust, all pointing at their location.
As Saskia and Josh completed the puzzles first, they were treated to a major clue about a Formula One race car toy.
With the groups struggling to put the clues together, Darren highlighted the Leonardo Da Vinci painting and whispered to his team-mate that they could be in France. In a shock twist, host Rob Brydon appeared and revealed it was time for the map room.
But after learning that Judith placed her X on Marseille instead of Paris, he fumed. As a result, some viewers aired their disappointment on social media, with one writing: "Daren thinking Judith is trying to get him out... my queen is not like that."
A second penned: "Now Daren stop being stupid now. Judith had no clue either she's just guessing and doesn't think they are in Paris that's all."
As another complained: "FFS don't bloody blame Judith." (sic)
Reflecting on Judith's temperature remark during the mine challenge, one viewer questioned: "Could Darren not tell himself that it was hot?!" as another advised: "Daren, Daren.. just take it on the chin."
A while after the map room shocker, which one fan labelled a "Big twist," Judith took the opportunity to talk to her teammate and admit: "I feel like I messed that up."
But as Darren attempted to reassure her, he later asked: "Did you go Paris?" To which she confessed: "No." Darren's face instantly dropped as he questioned: "You didn't go Paris? Where'd you go then?"
This prompted Judith to reveal: "I went south because it was hot." However, a frustrated Darren sensed deceit and said: "Why didn't you let me in on this?"
As she responded: "I didn't know this was going to happen," he hit back: "Judith, I think this is a major play on your part."
