legend has urged the club not to sell or any young players this summer. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, who both came through the United youth system, have been linked with moves elsewhere, while a host of other squad members are expected to also be put up for sale.
Ruben Amorim's team face in the final on Wednesday and could yet end a wretched domestic campaign with qualification. Regardless, the Portuguese manager is expected to overhaul his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. However, Beckham, 50, has argued it's key that skipper Fernandes stays.
"I'd like to think you wouldn't have to sell your captain," he told . "He has been exceptional. We've all been critical at times of some United players, but when we needed someone to step up, he has done it."
Beckham also doesn't want academy products to be sold purely to improve the club's Financial Fair Play standing, adding: "I also hate the idea of any young player who has grown up at United leaving the club. We shouldn't be selling players purely for financial reasons.
"It should be what they are doing on the field, and if they're not performing. I'd like to think that Manchester United don't sell players who have grown up at the club, understand and love the club. I don't want to see players leave Manchester United if they care about United like I do."
Despite a harrowing campaign that has confined United to their worst-ever finish, Beckham has backed Amorim to be a long-term success in Manchester and thinks he will get it right in the summer, saying: "I believe that we have a very good manager now.
"He's a young manager with success already under his belt and great experience for his age. So I think he will make the changes that he needs to make."
Beckham also praised club fans for continuing to sell out Old Trafford despite the side's poor form, and argued that Anorim understands the fan base. The ex-England captain added: "It's why I like Ruben and I think he has got a real opportunity here."
