Shower screens get marked mainly because of hard water deposits, also known as limescale. Soap scum can also be to blame if the limescale or soap scum isn't cleaned regularly. They can actually etch the glass surface, making it look permanently dirty, even after cleaning.
Regular cleaning or even wiping down with a squeegee after each shower helps prevent buildup and keeps the shower clean. If you're finding it hard to get rid of marks, cleaning enthusiasts have shared their preferred products.
Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Lisa Evans wrote: "I'm struggling with water marks and limescale on my shower screens. My parents used to have a spray and it worked great, but I can't remember what it was. Any ideas?"
More than 80 people flooded the comments to share their thoughts, and while there was a variety of products recommended, one was shared the most.
Annika Karrison said: "Viakal is the best. Forget everything else. I squirt a line across the top of my shower door and a line across the centre.
"Wearing gloves and using a damp cloth, I wipe the Viakal over the entire door. I then do the same to the side panels. I then rinse it off, starting with the first panel, and that's it. Very satisfying to see the difference. I do this in my client homes, and it always looks great."
Sami Hill wrote: "I use Viakal with a dry cloth, it's amazing." Julie Raine and Ruth Hudson both recommended Viakal, saying it's the best for limescale.
Gwyneth Calderbank said she uses Viakal before she gets in the shower and then sprays it off while she's in the shower, and it gives "perfect results".
Viakal, available for around £1.50 in most supermarkets, is a limescale remover and anti-watermark spray ideal for bathrooms.
It can also be used on surfaces like chrome, stainless steel, ceramic, tiles and plastic, but with caution.
Other comments recommended white vinegar, but Lisa said she didn't like the scent, so she would prefer to stick to commercial products.
Using Viakal must be done with caution, as it's not recommended to leave it on any area for too long.
Brits should also ventilate the area when using cleaning products, as they can be quite strong. Also, keep pets and children away.
