Angela Rayner's partner has been spotted leaving her seaside home holding a set of keys, sparking rumours that he may have moved in with her. Sam Tarry was seen following the ex-deputy prime minister out the door of her three-bedroom flat in Hove, East Sussex. Ms Rayner has been in an on-off relationship with the former Labour MP since 2022, The Sun reports.
A source told the outlet: "Angela and Sam certainly seem to be taking the next step in their relationship. They have been spending a lot of time together recently - and now it would appear they have moved in together." Last week, Mr Tarry was spotted moving items between his home in Brighton and Ms Rayner's £800,000 flat - her third home.
The former housing secretary already her family home in her constituency of Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, and a grace-and-favour flat at Admiralty House in London.
She was forced to quit on September 5 after it emerged that she did not pay £40,000 in stamp duty on her latest Hove flat.
Ms Rayner claimed she'd been given the wrong tax advice when buying the property, but Sir Laurie Magnus, the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards, found she had breached the ministerial code by underpaying tax.
In her resignation letter to Sir Keir Starmer, she said: "I deeply regret my decision to not seek additional specialist tax advice given both my position as housing secretary and my complex family arrangements.
"I take full responsibility for this error. I would like to take this opportunity to repeat that it was never my intention to do anything other than pay the right amount."
Sir Laurie said in a report presented to the Prime Minister: "Accordingly, it is with deep regret that I must advise you that in these circumstances, I consider the Code to have been breached."
Sir Keir was asked if Ms Rayner was the victim of a sexist and classist "briefing war", as some of her allies have claimed.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live's Matt Chorley: "Angela came from a very humble background, battled all sorts of challenges along the way, and there she is proudly - and I'm proud of her - as our deputy prime minister."
