Amid ongoing border tensions, the Bangladesh Army has for the first time acknowledged that over 1,000 illegal Bangladeshi citizens have been deported from India since May 7. This admission marks a departure from earlier denials by the Bangladesh government regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in India.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters confirmed that at least 1,053 individuals were sent back through various border points. BGB Director Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui stated many deportees were indeed Bangladeshi nationals who had lived in India for years, with some even born there and holding Indian documents that were reportedly confiscated.

Despite expressing protests over the deportations via diplomatic and flag meetings, Siddiqui emphasized that BGB has intensified surveillance and patrols along sensitive border areas. India, meanwhile, denies any human rights violations related to these actions.

Bangladesh urges a bilateral agreement on migration management, while India continues its robust strategy to secure its borders.
