The first heavy rain of monsoon and cloudburst has caused havoc in many areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The search is on for five tourists missing since the cloudburst in Dharamshala and Kullu districts and eight tourists who were swept away in the swollen Alaknanda river after a road accident in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

One more body has been recovered from Manuni Khad in Dharamshala district and Ratuda in Rudraprayag district. Rescue workers from various agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire brigade, and water police are engaged in the search for the missing tourists. Monsoon rain is expected in Delhi even today and monsoon rain may gain momentum in UP from tomorrow.

Nine workers working at a power generation unit and three members of the same family in Sainj were swept away in the water after cloudburst and sudden floods in Dharamshala and Kullu districts in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. One worker was rescued from Manuni Khad, the bodies of six workers have been found so far, while two are missing. The missing people in Sainj are still not known. The search is on.

Meanwhile, the state government has entrusted the task of investigating the causes of the Dharamshala accident to the SDM. Deputy Commissioner Kangra has issued instructions for investigation. On Friday, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was to visit the flood-affected Sainj area, but his visit was cancelled due to bad weather. A yellow alert for rain has been issued in some areas of the state on Saturday as well.

Due to the ongoing rain in Himachal and incidents of cloudburst in the past few days, vehicular movement on 53 roads has come to a halt. 23 roads are closed in Kullu, 16 in Mandi, seven in Lahaul-Spiti, and three in Sirmaur. Apart from this, 135 electricity transformers and 147 drinking water schemes have also stopped in the state. 74 power transformers in the Kullu district, 59 in Mandi, and one each in Chamba-Lahaul-Spiti remained out of order. 118 drinking water schemes in Kullu, six in Chamba, 21 in Lahaul-Spiti, and two in Rampur are also affected.

Number of people killed in Rudraprayag bus accident reaches four.

Search is on for eight missing people after a vehicle fell into the overflowing Alaknanda River near Gholthir on the Rishikesh-Gaurikund National Highway in Rudraprayag. Rising water levels and muddy water in the river are making rescue operations difficult. Another body was found near Ratuda, which was identified as Sanjay Soni (55) who was a resident of Udaipur, Rajasthan. With this, the death toll has gone up to four. There were a total of 20 people in the vehicle, including the driver and the guide, out of which 18 were from the same family and were going to Badrinath. The rescue team is searching for people from the spot to Srinagar Dam. Relatives of the accident victims are also reaching Rudraprayag.

Landslides in Sonprayag and Munkatiya
Landslides are occurring intermittently near Sonprayag and Munkatiya on the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund highway, the lifeline of Kedar Valley. This is badly disrupting the Kedarnath Yatra. On Friday, the highway remained closed in many places and passengers were stopped for three hours in Sonprayag.

Jammu and Kashmir: Chenab river in spate
Chenab River is in spate due to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir. The Baglihar hydroelectric project was flooded due to the rise in the river water level. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Shridhar Patil, acknowledged the situation and urged people to stay away from rivers and overflowing streams.

Rajasthan: Many areas submerged due to heavy rains
Heavy rains are occurring in various states of the country due to the impact of monsoon. Many areas in Rajasthan have been submerged due to torrential rains. Heavy rains were recorded in various districts of eastern Rajasthan on Friday as well. Sajjangarh in Banswara district received the highest rainfall of 130 mm. Bassi in Jaipur also recorded 110 mm of rainfall.

Monsoon rains will gain momentum once again in Uttar Pradesh from June 29. Starting from the southern part of Sonbhadra, there are chances of heavy rains in different parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in ten districts including Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Jhansi, and Lalitpur for Saturday. At the same time, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning in 40 districts.

Since the entry of the monsoon, intermittent light and moderate rains have continued in both the eastern and western parts. At the same time, people are disappointed with only the drizzle or movement of clouds in some areas. They are also facing humid heat. On Friday, light to moderate rain occurred in many districts like Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Lalitpur, Agra, Mathura, and Mainpuri.

Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said that the trough line is shifting north. The current weather conditions are fully favorable for the southwest monsoon to reach the rest of the northwestern parts as well. From June 29, monsoon rains will gain momentum again from Sonbhadra, the southern part of the state, and rainfall activities will intensify in the rest of the state as well.

Heavy rain is expected here.
