Send Push

Rani Mukerji, known for her powerful performances and versatility in Bollywood, once made headlines for an unexpected confession—she wanted to marry superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who is 35 years older than her. Though today she is married to filmmaker Aditya Chopra, her admiration for the legendary actor once bordered on devotion.

“If Given a Chance, I’d Marry Big B”

In a candid moment on Simi Garewal’s iconic talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Rani openly confessed her deep admiration for Amitabh Bachchan. When asked about her dream man, she said that if given the opportunity, she would have married Big B. Rani described him not only as a superstar but as someone she deeply respected and “wanted to worship.”

Rani and Big B’s Controversial Onscreen Kiss

The two eventually shared the screen in the critically acclaimed film Black (2005), where Amitabh played a strict yet compassionate teacher to Rani’s character, a deaf and blind girl. The film included a controversial kiss between the two, which sparked widespread debate due to their significant age difference.

From Big B to His Son: Rani’s Relationship with Abhishek Bachchan

Interestingly, while Rani’s admiration for Amitabh remained a public fascination, she eventually developed a romantic relationship with his son, Abhishek Bachchan. The two co-starred in several films like Yuva, Bunty Aur Babli, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and their chemistry onscreen translated into a real-life romance.

Reports from the early 2000s suggested that wedding bells were imminent. Their relationship was reportedly approved by the Bachchan family, and industry insiders believed they were headed for marriage. However, their relationship ended abruptly, and the two went their separate ways. Abhishek later married Aishwarya Rai in 2007.

A Turn of Fate

Rani Mukerji eventually found love in Aditya Chopra, the reclusive filmmaker and head of Yash Raj Films. The two tied the knot in 2014 and are parents to a daughter, Adira.

Though Rani never became a part of the Bachchan family, her fondness for Amitabh and her romantic chapter with Abhishek remain intriguing footnotes in her journey—from a star-struck fan to one of Bollywood’s most respected actresses.
