A huge fire broke out early Monday morning on the set of TV’s top-rated serial Anupama, starring Rupali Ganguly. The incident took place around 5 AM at the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Mumbai’s Goregaon Film City. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but property worth lakhs—possibly crores—has been reduced to ashes.
Fire Erupts Before Shoot BeginsSources confirmed to TV9 Hindi Digital that the fire started before the day’s shooting began. The call time for the crew was 7 AM, and since only security staff and a few workers were present, there were no casualties. However, the damage to the set is extensive. Eyewitnesses reported thick plumes of smoke engulfing the sky as five fire brigade vehicles rushed to control the blaze.
Electrical Short Circuit SuspectedWhile the exact cause of the fire is under investigation, initial reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. The flames quickly engulfed the entire set built near the Film City office. Thankfully, the nearby set of Dori (starring Amar Upadhyay) remained unaffected.
Recurring Safety ConcernsThis isn't the first safety scare on the Anupama sets. About six months ago, a camera assistant tragically died due to an electric shock on the set adjacent to Bigg Boss. Incidents like these raise serious questions about on-set safety in television productions.
Not an Isolated CaseIn 2023, a similar fire had broken out on the set of Ghum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein, another Star Plus show. The entire set was destroyed in that incident too.
Anupama: The Reigning Queen of TRPsAnupama is currently the most-watched TV show in India, consistently topping the TRP charts. It premiered on 23 July 2020 and will soon complete 5 successful years on air. The show, produced by Rajan Shahi, features Rupali Ganguly in the titular role and remains a flagship property for Star Plus.
