Liverpool fans might not have to wait too long to see new signing Florian Wirtz in action after he completed his £116million move on Friday. Wirtz has become the club's new record signing, with the fee eclipsing the £85m they paid for Darwin Nunez in 2022, and will also break the British transfer record if all the add-ons are hit.
Liverpool have paid Bayer Leverkusen an initial £100m, with a further £16m due if certain individual and team targets are met. Wirtz will now join up with his new teammates when they return to pre-season training on July 7.
And his first appearance for Liverpool could come on July 13 when they take on Preston North End in their first pre-season match at Deepdale. They are also set to face AC Milan in Hong Kong on July 26, Yokohama F Marinos in Japan on July 30 and Athletic Bilbao at Anfield on August 4.
Wirtz could make his official debut for the Reds on August 10 when they take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley, while his Premier League debut will likely come on August 15 when Liverpool host Bournemouth.
Speaking after his move to Liverpool was completed, Wirtz said: " I feel very happy and very proud. Finally it's done and I was waiting for a long time – finally it's done and I am really happy.

"I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League.
"I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best. I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it's perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I'm really looking forward to playing my first game.
"I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve. Of course I want to keep going at this performance. So yeah, that sure gives motivation to achieve more.
"I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work. In the end, we want to be successful.
"Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I'm really ambitious."
