Man Utd launch improved Bryan Mbeumo transfer bid to ward off Tottenham interest

Send Push

Manchester United have reportedly submitted an improved bid of more than £60million for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as Ruben Amorim's side look to pip Tottenham to his signature.

Amorim is eager to add more firepower to his frontline after becoming frustrated with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and Mbeumo is seen as the man who could transform the team's fortunes.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m but Amorim is said to be chasing at least more forwards to overhaul his attack.

The Red Devils have already seen a bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons rejected by Brentford for Mbeumo - who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season.

And according to talkSport, United have now lodged a new bid totalling over £60m as they look to wrap up the transfer with Spurs waiting in the wings.

Mbeumo has been leaning towards a move to Old Trafford throughout the transfer saga but is understood to be "intrigued" by the idea of joining Tottenham after they appointed his former boss Thomas Frank.

Earlier this month, Mirror Football reported how Spurs had launched a £70m bid for Mbeumo, with Daniel Levy seeing the player as a statement signing for new boss Frank.

United do have the edge over Tottenham when it comes to wages and are understood to be willing to offer between £150,000-£175,000-a-week, with bonuses taking that expected package to £200,000-a-week.

United were hoping to pay for Mbeumo in instalments but were hit by a setback after Brentford told them they wanted the bulk of the fee paid up front.

When the club signed Cunha, they agreed to pay in three instalments over two seasons - after initially proposing to pay across five seasons - and Brentford want a similar deal to be struck.

Mbeumo first joined Brentford when the team were in the Championship back in 2019. They spent just £5.8m on him, which was a club record at the time.

He has gone on to score 70 goals in 242 appearances for the Bees and the club appear happy for a bidding war to take place in order to maximise profits for the 25-year-old.
