Maintaining a lush, vibrant becomes a real battle when temperatures start to soar; however, there's a nifty trick to keep your grass quenched and in tip-top shape. As we enter the warmer months, it's not uncommon to see lawns turn a sickly yellow and become riddled with bald spots as they parch, but Trent Lewis from is on hand with a top tip to avoid disaster.

Trent advised: "Your lawn needs nutrients to survive. Before you reach for the fertiliser, though, think again; grass needs to take in a lot of energy to grow, and growing grass mid-summer could definitely stress your lawn out way more than it can handle."

Instead of sprouting vibrant greens, your grass might bear the brunt of fertiliser burn, leading to unsightly browning, heightened strain and a tougher recovery route.

Garden gurus bestow their blessing on fertilising only until May, priming your green carpet for the summer ahead, and post-summer in September to fortify it against winter.

If June finds you desperate to nurture your lawn, opt for a slow-release fertiliser and bide your time until a cool, rainy day to fend off any scorching side effects.

Yet, there's a dead-simple trick to keep your turf verdant and thriving in June, and it all boils down to timing your watering just right.

Trent said, "Water your lawn between 6am and 10am. Any later and the water will evaporate before it gets absorbed by the soil or reaches the roots."

The small hours of the morning are typically cooler, so giving your grass a drink then means it'll stay quenched and won't lose moisture when the midday sun cranks up the heat.

Make sure to soak your lawn thoroughly once a week, but if the mercury climbs, up the ante to two or three times.

Should you spot any patches going a bit yellow or sparse, steer clear of trampling over them or plonking down hefty items like deck chairs or barbecues, to let the grass bounce back.

By holding off on the fertiliser and watering smartly in June, your lawn is set to be a lush green oasis all summer long, keeping its pep well into the autumn.
