Body of boy, 15, pulled from Glasgow river after hours-long search

The body of a 15-year-old boy has been pulled from a river in Glasgow.

Emergency services launched a major search and rescue operation on Saturday evening following reports of a boy in the River Kelvin in northern Glasgow, Scotland. At roughly 6.40pm, police and fire service crews began their search - but by 11.30pm, officers had found and recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy from the water. Police said enquiries are ongoing and that the boy's death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.40pm on Saturday, 12 July, 2025, a search and rescue operation was launched following a report of a 15-year-old male in the River Kelvin, near Maryhill Road, Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and around 11.30pm the body of a male was recovered from the water. Enquiries are ongoing, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious."

Last night, emergency services, including police officers, paramedics and the fire brigade, swarmed the Glasgow river and were pictured at the scene with a lifeboat, GlasgowLive reports. Crews arrived on Kelvindale Road, near the city's Maryhill area, on Saturday evening.

Local reports suggested a specialist water rescue team was also on scene, while a police helicopter was spotted overhead. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said at the time: "There is an ongoing incident we are currently attending."
