Australia's legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has made a statement about Mahendra Singh Dhoni which Mahi's fans may not like. Gilchrist wants MS Dhoni to retire from the Indian Premier League. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Gilchrist has advised MS Dhoni to retire after IPL 2025.
43-year-old Dhoni is currently captaining Chennai Super Kings in the absence of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, CSK's position has not improved even under Dhoni's captaincy and they are still at the bottom of the points table. Ahead of CSK's match against Punjab Kings, Gilchrist said that Dhoni is an icon of IPL and world cricket and he has nothing left to prove to anyone.
Adam Gilchrist said before the CSK vs Punjab Kings match, "MS Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone in cricket. Well, he will know what to do, but for the future, maybe he doesn't need to play IPL next year. I love you MS, you are a champion and an icon."
If we talk about the current edition of IPL, Chennai Super Kings have won only 2 out of their 9 matches and their dream of playing the playoffs this year has been shattered. This season their batting has proved to be their weakness. CSK has included players like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis as replacements this season but it seems that they took too long to take this decision. 17-year-old Mhatre looked in good form in both the matches played against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Dewald Brevis played a brilliant innings in his debut against Hyderabad.
At the same time, if players like Rahul Tripathi, Rachin Ravindra, Deepak Hooda and Ravichandran Ashwin had performed well for Chennai, then the position of this team in the points table would have been different at this time.
