Telangana Day is also known as Telangana Formation Day. It is observed every year on June 2 to commemorate the birth of India’s 29th state. In 2025, Telangana Day will be observed on Monday, June 2, marking the 11th anniversary of the state’s formation.
History and Formation
Telangana was officially formed on June 2, 2014, after a long and historic movement demanding separate statehood from Andhra Pradesh. The demand stemmed from socio-economic and cultural differences, as well as concerns about neglect in development and governance.
The movement gained momentum over decades, with strong public support and leadership by regional parties. Finally, the Indian Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act in 2014, paving the way for Telangana to emerge as an independent state with Hyderabad as its capital.
Significance of Telangana Day
Telangana Day honours the resilience and aspirations of the people who fought for identity, self-governance, and inclusive development. The day is a celebration of cultural pride, regional heritage, and political achievement. The day also reflects on the progress the state has made in sectors like IT, agriculture, infrastructure, and welfare schemes since its formation.

Celebrations and Events
On this day, the state government organises grand celebrations across all districts. The Chief Minister hoists the national flag, delivers a public address, and honors individuals for outstanding service. Cultural programs, parades, and exhibitions showcasing Telangana’s rich history, dance, music, and cuisine are also held.
About the State
Telangana is known for its vibrant traditions, architectural marvels like the Charminar, and natural beauty including the Kuntala Waterfalls and Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. With Hyderabad as a global tech hub, the state continues to be a symbol of modern progress blended with cultural legacy.
