Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf was slated for a theatrical release on May 9; however, a day before its release, the makers made a shocking announcement, cancelling the theatrical release amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. They further revealed that the movie will now premiere on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on May 16.
This sudden change has now landed Dinesh Vijan's production house, Maddock Films in legal trouble as PVR Cinemas, one of the leading cinema chains in India, have sued them for Rs 60 crore, citing major financial losses incurred due to the abrupt cancellation. PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani confirmed the news to News9Live, with a senior official also stating that the lawsuit has been officially filed.
Maddock Films, on the other hand, has yet to publicly comment on the situation.
On Thursday, Maddock Films issued a statement that read, "In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND."
Maddock Films continued to dominate the box office with a string of successful releases. Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, became the highest-grossing film of 2025, earning Rs 783 crore at the box office.
The production house's track record in 2024 was equally impressive, with consecutive hits like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Munjya, and Stree 2.
