The Ministry of Indian Railways officially announced a fare revision for passenger train services on Monday. The fares of suburban trains and monthly season tickets have been left unchanged in the interest of daily commuters. Additionally, the fare for Ordinary Non-AC Non-Suburban trains for travel up to 500 km remains unchanged.
"Revised fares will apply to tickets booked on or after 1st July 2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the existing fare without any fare adjustment. PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems are being updated accordingly" read the cercular issued by railway ministry on Monday.
“There will be no change in suburban single journey fares or the cost of season tickets for both suburban and non-suburban routes. For Second Class Ordinary Non-AC Non-Suburban trains, there is no increase in fare for travel up to 500 km. However, fares will increase by Rs. 5 for distances between 501 and 1500 km, by Rs. 10 for distances between 1501 and 2500 km, and by Rs. 15 for distances between 2501 and 3000 km. Sleeper Class Ordinary fares will increase by half a paisa per kilometre, and First Class Ordinary fares will also increase by half a paisa per kilometre. In addition to that Mail and Express trains (Non-AC), fares for Second Class, Sleeper Class, and First Class will increase by one paisa per kilometre. For AC classes, fares for AC Chair Car, AC Three-Tier/3E, AC Two-Tier, and AC First Class/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti (EC/EA) will increase by two paisa per kilometre,” said an official.
"The existing basic fares for train services such as Tejas Rajdhani, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Tejas, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, Ordinary services (non-suburban), Anubhuti coach, and AC Vistadome coach have been revised to reflect the above-mentioned class-wise fare increases, as per the notified revised Fare Table" official added.
"There shall be no change in charges for reservation fees, superfast surcharges, etc. These charges, wherever applicable, shall continue to be levied additionally. GST, as applicable, shall also continue to be charged as per instructions issued from time to time. Rounding off of fares shall continue to be done as per existing principles" stated the cercular issued by Ministry of Railways on Monday.

No Fare Hike for Suburban and Short-Distance Non-AC Travel
There is no change in the fare of suburban trains, including single journey and season ticket fares.
The fare for Ordinary Non-AC Second Class (non-suburban trains) also remains unchanged for distances up to 500 km.
Second Class fare will be increased by Rs 5 for distances between 501–1500 km, Rs 10 for distances between 1501–2500 km, and Rs 15 for journeys between 2501–3000 km.
Sleeper and First Class ordinary fares will be increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre.
For Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC), Second Class, Sleeper Class, and First Class fares will be increased by 1 paisa per kilometer.
AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3E, AC 2-Tier, AC First/Executive/Anubhuti Class fares on mail/express trains will be increased by 2 paisa per kilometer.
