Even though doctors treat physical diseases with medicines and medical techniques, there are many problems in which home remedies prove to be very effective. One of these remedies is – our saliva, which is considered no less than a treasure for health. Many things around us work like natural medicines. Saliva is also one of them. Both research and traditional medicine believe that saliva contains such elements which are beneficial in many problems of the body. It is effective in improving digestion as well as skin-related problems and eye care.

Relief in acne and skin problems with saliva
Often we struggle with skin problems due to wrong eating habits, stress, pollution, or irregular routine – such as pimples and dryness of the skin. Applying saliva on the face as soon as you wake up in the morning provides relief from these problems. This is because saliva has antiseptic properties which fight bacteria and keep the skin clean.
Lysozyme enzyme and skin pores
A study has shown that lysozyme enzymes present in saliva help in curing acne on the face. For people who have oily skin, their skin pores get clogged quickly. In such a situation, applying saliva on the face opens these pores and also balances the oiliness of the skin.
Saliva is also effective in healing wounds.
According to information, human saliva contains many proteins that help in healing wounds quickly. The special thing is that morning saliva can be used not only for facial care but also for eye care. According to research, if morning saliva is applied to the eyes like kajal, it removes the problem of dry eyes.
Also beneficial for the digestive system
When you drink water in the morning, the saliva accumulated in the mouth overnight goes into your stomach. It helps in improving digestion. It is said in Ayurveda, "If the stomach is clean, then the disease is cured." That is, if the stomach is healthy, diseases will stay away – and the contribution of saliva is considered important in this.
How to prevent a lack of saliva?
Ayurveda experts say that if there is a decrease in saliva production, then its treatment is present in our kitchen itself. Some natural remedies like the consumption of fenugreek, Triphala, and amla and the use of different types of datun (neem, babool, peepal, bael, etc.) help in increasing the amount of saliva.

Why is the ability to produce saliva reduced?
The process of saliva formation can be affected by many reasons – such as excessive use of chemical toothpaste, intoxication or side effects of some allopathic medicines. Due to all these reasons, the mouth starts drying and saliva production decreases, which can affect digestion and oral hygiene in the long run.
