Bathing small children often proves to be challenging for the mother, especially when they cry at the sight of water. In such a situation, you may give them a bubble bath to make bathing fun. The foam present in bubble bath attracts children, due to which they take a bath without crying while playing, and they also develop a positive feeling about bathing. But many studies show that it can also be harmful for them.

A fun way
Bubble bath is a relaxing and pleasant bathing method, in which special bubble bath liquid or soap is added to a tub filled with lukewarm water. This creates foam or bubbles in the water. At the same time, it is made attractive for children by keeping some fragrant essential oils, flower petals, and toys like a baby duck. But experts say that it has many disadvantages too.
Sensitive skin
The skin of small children is very delicate and sensitive, so it is very important to understand their skin type. If products are not selected according to their skin type, then after a bubble bath, they may have problems like irritation, itching, swelling, and red rashes. Especially products that contain artificial fragrance, color, or chemicals can harm the skin of children.
Eye infection
During a bubble bath, children have a lot of fun in water. In such a situation, if the foamy water goes into their eyes, then it can cause irritation, redness, itching, and other problems in the eyes, which can create a fear of bathing in their mind. Therefore, safe and tear-free products should always be selected for bathing children.
UTI (Urine Infection)
After a bubble bath, the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) increases, especially in girls, because their urinary tract is more sensitive. If the foamy water containing chemicals comes into contact with the private parts, then it can cause problems like infection. Therefore, you should avoid giving bubble baths to small girls.
Find safe alternatives
Instead of bubble bath, you can use colour-changing bath bombs (which are chemical-free), water-safe toys, rubber ducks, splash mats, and bath puzzles to make bathing fun and safe for children. Children are also attracted to bathing with mugs or soaps with their favourite cartoon characters. Also, telling stories or singing a song during bath keeps children busy. These measures can make bathing fun for children.

Buy only after checking the label.
Dr Deepak Kumar, Professor of Pediatrics at Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, says, parents should avoid giving bubble baths to children below five years of age because the products used for bubble baths contain chemicals. If you still want to give a bubble bath to your child, then while choosing soap or shampoo for him, take a 5.5 pH balanced product. Also, choose fragrance-free, paraben-free, and sulphate-free products. Always buy products after looking for dermatologist-tested or safe for baby label, and do a patch test on a small part of the child's hand or foot. Initially, keep the time limit of the bubble bath for the child to 2-3 minutes; later, you can increase the time to 10 minutes. Always choose clean water for bathing, so that the child does not get any stomach infection or pneumonia even after going into the mouth.
