In an unusual yet eyebrow-raising moment during an interview, American political scientist Carol Christine Fair described US President Donald Trump as a “c**tiya”, a Hindi slang term, while speaking with Pakistan-origin British journalist Moeed Pirzada. The clip has since gone viral on social media, sparking laughter, memes, and lively debate.
In the video, Pirzada posed a serious question about US foreign policy:
"Do you think that the US administration, for the past 25 years, has now given up their view that India is needed for counterbalancing China? Do you think the US has moved beyond that? And if it has moved beyond that, then what has it moved into?"
Fair, known for her outspoken style, responded analytically at first, saying, "No, I don't think the US has moved beyond it… Unfortunately, many of the Trump officials are not terribly expert in their field… one does have to remember that we have this complicated bureaucracy and this bureaucracy has been really working toward this relationship for these 25 years."
However, as she continued, Fair could not hold back her frustration at the Trump administration. She bluntly added:
"The optimist in me would like to believe the bureaucracy is going to hold it together, but the pessimist in me says this is six months and we have got four years of this… of this… c**tiya."
Pirzada, who had maintained a straight face until then, was caught off guard and briefly chuckled before attempting to compose himself.
Social media erupts with reactions
The clip spread rapidly across platforms, with netizens unleashing a wave of jokes and memes.
One user quipped, “Someone finally addressed Trump by his official title.” Another chimed in, “This was too hilarious.”
Others turned the remark into linguistic humour: “Soon it will be added to the English dictionary,” joked one, while another wrote, “Best word in Hindi dictionary to describe someone you cannot otherwise.”
While Fair’s choice of words divided opinion, many agreed that her candid remark perfectly captured the polarising figure of Trump, leaving the internet in peals of laughter.
