Multiple explosions were reported at several military installations in Pakistan early Saturday morning. A Reuters witness confirmed blasts at three separate military bases. The Pakistan Army has claimed that India launched missiles targeting key air bases, while India has not issued any official statement on the matter.
Pakistan Army blames India: What we know so far
Pakistan Army spokesperson Lt Gen. Ahmad Sharif addressed the nation on television, stating that missiles struck the Nur Khan base in Rawalpindi, the Murid base in Chakwal, and the Rafiqui base in Jhang district of Punjab province.
He said, "Most of the missiles have been intercepted," and added, “All Pakistan Air Force assets are safe.” Sharif also claimed that some Indian missiles landed in India’s eastern Punjab and in Afghanistan. He said Pakistan has “evidence to prove it.”
According to Sharif, no air-to-surface missiles were fired by Indian jets during the incident.
Blackouts imposed in border areas
Following the explosions, a complete power blackout was enforced in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities also reported sirens in the area. In Punjab’s Jalandhar district, a similar temporary blackout was ordered after drone sightings, according to the District Collector.
Indian briefing soon
As of now, there has been no official response from the Indian government regarding the allegations made by Pakistan.
