A Bengaluru-based tech professional’s bold career move has become an inspiring tale of risk and reinvention. Pradeep Kannan, who once served as Operations Head at Oracle India, left behind what he described as the “perfect 9-to-5 life” — a stable income, comfortable routine, and settled family life — to sell falooda and ice cream in his hometown, Karur, Tamil Nadu.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kannan recalled that his decision to quit a secure job in 2019 was met with disbelief. “Everyone told me I had the perfect routine: a corporate job, a good salary, and a settled family life. But I knew I wanted to build something of my own, so I resigned and went back to Karur to start a falooda ice-cream shop. People thought I had lost my mind,” he wrote.
Building ‘The Falooda Shop’
What started as a modest outlet soon grew into The Falooda Shop, a brand that today operates more than 18 stores across countries like India and Dubai. Kannan shared that his journey had evolved from “small-town dreams → AC offices → franchise kitchens → global shelves,” summing up his transformation from a corporate professional to a global entrepreneur.
He described the journey as one that moved from comfort to conviction, where passion took precedence over logic. “Today, I am working openly towards creating India’s next aspirational D2C ice-cream brand,” Kannan said, adding that the expansion into international markets is only “the beginning.”
Social Media Applauds His Leap of Faith
Kannan’s post quickly gained traction online, drawing admiration and encouragement from users who praised his courage and persistence. One user commented that it “takes courage to step outside a comfort zone,” while another wrote, “Congratulations! It is inspiring to see someone walk away from a 9-5 job and create opportunities for others.”

I had the perfect 9-5.
• Operations Head at Oracle India
• Good salary
• Beautiful family
Society said: You’re settled.
But something inside me wasn’t.
So in 2019, I did the unthinkable.
I left Bangalore and moved back to
