Wall Street's main indexes opened sharply lower on Wednesday after data showed the world's largest economy US contracted in the first (March) quarter, amplifying worries about the economic hit from President Donald Trump's tariff policies.
The Dow Jones fell 438.44 points or 1.08% to 40,089.18, the S&P 500 declined 85.09 points or 1.53% to 5,475.70, and the Nasdaq dropped 362.50 points or 2.08% to 17,098.82 at the opening bell.
