IRCTC has closed 2.5 crore fake accounts. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given this information in the Rajya Sabha. Railways has taken this big step to make the Tatkal ticket booking system transparent.
Indian Railways has taken a big action and closed 2.5 crore IRCTC accounts. This information has been given to the Parliament by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon session, the Railway Minister also informed the House about the new rules of Tatkal. The government has taken this step to prevent fake ticket booking by brokers so that common passengers can get a better travel experience.
2.5 crore accounts closed
The Union Railway Minister said that IRCTC has blocked around 2.5 crore user IDs to prevent disturbances and misuse in the ticket booking system. In the information given to the House, the Union Minister said that during data analysis it was found that crores of user IDs have been created using fake information, after which action has been taken against them. This action has been taken to bring transparency in Tatkal ticket booking, so that common passengers do not face inconvenience.
New rule for Tatkal
Changing the rules for Tatkal ticket booking, Railways has started OTP based verification. Also, ticket booking can be done only through Aadhaar linked IRCTC account. This will ban fake Tatkal tickets. This new rule for Tatkal ticket booking has been implemented from 1 July 2025. Giving information in the House, the Railway Minister said that 89% of the tickets in Indian Railways are now booked online. With the implementation of the new rule, only Aadhaar verified users will now be able to book tickets in IRCTC website and app.
The Railway Minister said that in view of the convenience of the passengers, the facility of online or digital payment has now been made available at offline ticket booking counters (PRS) as well. Railway passengers can now book tickets through UPI through offline channels as well. Also, waiting tickets are being continuously monitored in view of the crowd in trains. When the waiting list is long, additional coaches are added to the train or the option of alternative trains and upgradation scheme is made available to the passengers.
