The Aadhaar card has become one of the most essential identity documents for Indian citizens. Whether it’s for availing government benefits, opening a bank account, or making investments, Aadhaar is mandatory almost everywhere. Therefore, it’s critical to keep your Aadhaar details — such as name, address, and biometric data — up to date. If your name has changed due to marriage or any other legal reason, you must update it in your Aadhaar card to avoid discrepancies in future documentation or transactions.
As per UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) guidelines, Aadhaar name updates can no longer be done online. You now need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (Aadhaar Service Center) in person. Here’s a complete guide on how to update your name on your Aadhaar card, what documents you need, and how much it costs.
✅ How to Change Your Name in Aadhaar Card: Step-by-Step ProcessStep 1: Download the Aadhaar Update Form
Visit UIDAI’s official website and download the Aadhaar enrollment/update form. You can also collect the form directly from the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Step 2: Visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra
Locate and visit the nearest Aadhaar center. You can find a list of centers on the UIDAI website.
Step 3: Fill Out and Submit the Form
Complete the form carefully with the correct updated name and submit it to the Aadhaar executive at the center.
Step 4: Submit Valid Proof of Identity (POI)
Provide an original copy of a valid identity proof document. The executive will verify it, take a photocopy, and return the original.
Step 5: Pay the Fee
Pay a nominal fee of ₹50 for the name update request.
You will be given an acknowledgment slip containing a URN (Update Request Number), which you can use to track your update status online.
