UEFA release Real Madrid statement as punishment revealed after Arsenal incident

Real Madrid have been fined by UEFA for an incident during their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal.

The Gunners headed to the Bernabeu for the second leg with a three-goal lead after stunning strikes from Declan Rice and Mikel Merino. In the opening moments their advantage could have increased but Bukayo Saka saw his penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid, through Kylian Mbappe, were then awarded a spot-kick of their own but following VAR intervention, that was cancelled.

With Los Blancos pushing to score another three goals, they were caught at the back deep into added time which allowed Gabriel Martinelli to grab the winner after latching onto an excellent through ball from Mikel Merino.

Alongside the three goals scored and two controversial penalty moments, Thomas Partey getting booked, and thus being suspended for the semi-final first leg with Paris Saint-Germain, was another notable incident.

A statement read: "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has taken the following decision: Match: Arsenal FC vs. Real Madrid CF (3:0), 08.04.2025, UEFA Champions League 2024/2025

"Charges against Real Madrid CF: Decision: The CEDB has decided: To fine Real Madrid CF €15,000 and to ban Real Madrid CF from selling tickets to its away supporters for the next one (1) UEFA competition match, for the racist behaviour.

"Said ban is suspended during a probationary period of one (1) year, starting from the date of the present decision." With the punishment suspended, supporters are not expected to be banned from attending any Real Madrid matches - unless they fall foul of the rules once again.
